Hyperidrosis (excessive sweating)
People suffering from excessive sweating can emit enormous amount of sweat. This implies that their palms, feet or armpits (depending on which part of the body is excessively sweating) are constantly moist. This makes everyday life very difficult and can be the cause of embarrassing situations in both professional and social life.
Following are among some basic causes of excessive sweating:
- Genetic basis of the irregularity,
- Over-activation of one type of sweat gland
What causes emission of excessive sweat:
- Physical exercise
- Stress
- Medications
- Powerful emotions
- Heat or cold
- Alcohol
- Smoking
- Hot or spicy food
- Coffee or tea.
Treating hyperidrosis
The treatment consists in temporary blocking of the sweating through injection of Botox. This unpleasant ailment can be eliminated for several months. The only disadvantage of the treatment is that it does not treat the causes, and only eliminates the symptoms.
How to prepare for the treatment?
Excessive sweating of armpits:
- Remove hair, in case of a rash after depilation, the depilation should be performed one day before the treatment.
- po zabiegu zakładamy świeżą bluzkę
Nadpoliwość stóp:
- Pedicure should be done one day before the treatment
- After the treatment put on a fresh shirt
Excessive sweating of feet:
- It is good to prepare cotton gloves
After the treatment
- Before the treatment the skin is desensitized with Emla preparation.
- The treatment consists in intradermal injection of type A botuline toxine. The preparation is injected with the use of sterile and very thin needles.
- The session takes approximately 30 minutes. After injection of a small dose, Botox is blocking the nerves supplying the endocrine glands. This prevents them from emitting sweat.
Effects
The effect is perceptible already after several days. The Botox block of the nerve ends holds for 6-12 weeks, and after that time nerve ends are regenerated and they replace the previously blocked ones. This implies that treatment is effective for several months, but it eventually wears off. A subsequent treatment session can be performed once the effects of the previous one expire, which on the average occurs after 7-12 months.
Following are among some basic contraindications:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding (no research available on the effect of toxins on the mother and the child),
- Neurological illnesses (amyothropic lateral sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy),
- Pathological lesions (purulent) on the skin under arms, on palms, and feet, treatment with antibiotics from the aminoglycoside group.
