Sclerotherapy

What does the sclerotherapy treatment consist in?

Sclerotherapy is a treatment consisting in a medicine being injected into the vessels, which causes a local inflammation of the endothelium, which results in closing of its wall followed by its fibrosis.

Every sclerotherapy treatment is preceded by a surgical consult and varicose vain ultrasound. The procedure itself consists in administering an obliterative agent with the use of very small ampoule-needles. The injections are virtually pain-free.

What are the types of sclerotherapy?

We use among others foam sclerotherapy, wherein a preparation in form of specially produced foam is administered to larger vessels. Then the preparation works locally and sticks better to the wall of the vessel and does not dissolve in it.

The treatment is usually conducted with the use of local Veinelite light.

The light emitted by the device allows for precise location of changes that are on various depth and are invisible in course of a standard treatment.

What are the recommendations for the sclerotherapy treatment?

A recommendation for undergoing the procedure is the presence of venulectasia, commonly known as spider veins and some types of varicose veins.

How to proceed after the treatment?

After the treatment the leg is bandaged or the patient wears compression tights for the period of 7 days. The healing process takes from several to a dozen or so weeks, depending on the level of severity of the original changes. Throughout this period, patients are allowed to get back to normal life.

  • Before the treatment as well as throughout the recovery period, we recommend taking Rutinoscorbin
  • Bright light exposure is strictly prohibited after the treatment

How many treatments should be made?

Achievement of a good effect usually requires several sessions. Skin-through laser obliteration (laser closing of vessels) is very often used at the end of the entire process.

Can there be any complications after the treatment?

Despite the proven great safety of this method, there can be:

  • bruises
  • discolorations
  • swelling around the ankles
  • pain in the injected vein
  • local allergic reaction to the administered medication
